McCain and NAFTA

In the midst of the political storm caused by Sarah Palin’s questionable nomination for VP, Barack Obama urges the American people to refocus on the critical issues of the day - and the NAFTA Agreement is one of those issues.

The free-flow of foreign products to the U.S. undermines the very thing that John McCain says he is going to fight for: American workers.

McCain is even quoted as saying this is a “time of uncertainty for American workers” yet he does not seem to appreciate the obvious connection: his complete surrender to all of the NAFTA terms will result in continuing job losses for Americans due to the fact that those goods won’t be, and are not now made by Americans!  His unyielding position on NAFTA is a dangerous, slippery slope for all working class Americans.

Catch what McCain has to say on NAFTA in this video posted on YouTube.

Barack Obama understands that complete opening of borders and reducing tariffs on foreign products is not in the best interests of American workers.  Obama’s response to the McCain position is “We cannot let enforcement of existing trade agreements take a backseat to the negotiation of new ones.”

Obama understands that some of the terms of NAFTA actually hurt American workers by allowing a glut of foreign products into the U.S. markets, and Obama’s policies give working Americans opportunities for more jobs, more economic stability and the chance to elect a President who will put the interests of the American people first.
